Toby's Corner Out Of Kentucky Derby
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Wood Memorial winner Toby's Corner has dropped out of consideration for Saturday's Kentucky Derby because of an unspecified problem with his left hind leg.
The colt never made it to Louisville from his base in Maryland. Trainer Graham Motion said Tuesday that Toby's Corner wasn't 100 percent the day before, so he sent him to be examined at an equine hospital in Pennsylvania.
Churchill Downs officials say nothing was definitively wrong, but Toby's Corner was still lame, so Motion decided not to run in the Derby.
That allows Lexington Stakes winner Derby Kitten to get into the field, which is limited to 20 starters. Entries will be taken Wednesday.
