Thousands Lace Up For Turkey Trot
TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) -- What better way to enjoy your Thanksgiving platter than with a little workout beforehand?
Tracey Leong has the story on this Maryland tradition.
This is the 20th annual Y Turkey Trot. Organizers say, each year, it just keeps getting bigger.
Before feasting on Thanksgiving food with their families, more than 12,000 runners hit the streets to participate in the annual Turkey Trot 5K for a great cause.
"Raising money for all of our programming for kids, preschool, after-school, summer programs," Hoey said.
Adults, kids, and even dogs came out to break a sweat before their big turkey feast.
"Not feeling guilty about eating a big Thanksgiving dinner," David Cohen, 5K runner said.
"My favorite is usually the stuffing," young runner Lizzie Cohen said.
Racers braved the cold with warm Thanksgiving meals on their mind.
"Wear warm clothes like my fleece," Lizzie Cohen said.
Friends and families came together to reflect on what they're thankful for this year.
"My family, my kids and being able to spend time together," Lizzie's dad, David, said.
"I'm especially thankful for spending time with my family and elephants," Cohen said. "I love elephants."
More than 12,000 people participated in the races, which were held all across Maryland. The Y's goal is to raise a total of $400,000.
There were a total of six Turkey Trot races. Other locations included Arnold, Baltimore City, Bel Air, Ellicott City, Towson and Westminster.
