The Norris & Davis Show Best Of - The Week Of December 5th
This week's edition of the Norris & Davis Show Best Of includes an interview with Dan Fouts prior to the Ravens win over the Browns, an interview with Jeff Ermann of InsideMDSports.com prior to the Terps hiring DJ Durkin, and an interview with new Terrapins Head Coach DJ Durkin.
DAN FOUTS
Dan joined Ed, Steve, and Mike Preston to preview tonight's primetime match-up between the Ravens and the Browns.
Steve asked Dan about Joe Flacco's current contract situation, Dan believes the Ravens should do whatever it takes to extend Flacco's contract, "as a player you want a little bit of leverage. What the Ravens should do is look around the league and see who's struggling. The teams that are struggling are teams without a quarterback. Whatever the market says you have to pay the Ravens are going to have to be willing to pay it."
Ed asked Dan what we should look for in tonight's Monday Night Football game between the Ravens and Browns. Dan believes that injuries will play a big role in this game, "its an excuse but its not an excuse. I'm interested in seeing how Matt Schaub and Buck Allen play who have been forced into the starting lineup. Josh McCown will do his best to give the Browns something. It will be interesting to see which team folds first."
Dan went on to discuss Joe Flacco's production this season compared to last season, his take on the Jets vs. Dolphins game on Sunday, and which teams we should keep an eye on in the AFC.
JEFF ERMANN
Jeff joined Ed and Steve to talk about the Terps Head Coach search and give the names of the front runners.
Steve asked Jeff when he thinks Maryland will hire their next head football coach. Jeff believes the hire will come in the next 2-3 days, "most people expected it to come early this week but it hasn't yet. I think it will happen in the next 48-72 hours, because they have a big recruiting event this weekend."
Ed asked Jeff what impact other job openings have had on Maryland's search for a new head coach. Jeff noted that the impact has been a minimal one, "there is a domino effect, but Maryland isn't on the same level as some of the other jobs that were available. The coaches that Maryland is attempting to hire are guys that aren't quite on the radar of the bigger schools."
Jeff went on to discuss the possibility of Maryland hiring Mark Richt, Frank Reich, or Mike Locksley as their next head coach and his prediction for who he thinks will be introduced as the next Maryland head football coach.
DJ DURKIN
Coach Durkin joined Ken and Steve to talk about taking the Terps job and how he will turn this program around.
Steve asked Coach Durkin about what his plans are to address the incoming recruits that were recruited by the previous coaching regime. Coach Durkin acknowledged that this transition can be tough for teenagers preparing to begin their collegiate athletic careers, "our biggest thing right now is reaching out to the recruits and their families. We are trying to put them at ease, its just about hitting the ground running right now."
Ken asked Coach Durkin about the excitement he displayed at his introductory press conference yesterday. Coach Durkin noted that meeting with people in and around the program was a big factor in his excitement level, "I really feel like the more I went through the process, the more people I got to meet. It definitely felt right from the beginning and yesterday it felt that way even more."
Coach Durkin went on to discuss challenges of recruiting at the University of Maryland, the impact of the relationship between the University and Under Armour on the football program, and what he learned from his time working under Coach Urban Meyer and Coach Jim Harbaugh.
