The Man Who Turned His Back On A-Rod
Tolbert Rowe, the man who turned his back on Alex Rodriguez's at bats in the Orioles loss to the Yankees, joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to pull the curtain back on why he decided to take a stand and not watch A-Rod. A lot of speculation across the internet was that fellow Oriole fans in his section were unhappy with his stance against Rodriguez, Rowe said most were supportive. "The folks behind me were supportive, and watching out for me, because many people wanted A-Rod to hit a homerun into section 78 row 5 seat 4 and take me out, but he was unsuccessful every time, and superstitious as I am, I kept it up."
A lot of national media outlets have picked up the story on the longtime O's fan from the Eastern Shore including NBC Sports, Deadspin and more. Tolbert says he would be just fine without all of the attention. "The social media comments have been about 80%-90% negative, but on my Facebook it's been about 100% fully supportive, and that's what matters to me. It's my 15 minutes of fame, but in all sincerity, I'd be alright without it."
The photo of Tolbert went viral after it was shared on Twitter:
A lot of people have questioned if Tolbert would turn his back on Nelson Cruz and other players who have been caught using performance enhancing drugs. He went on to explain why Alex Rodriguez is singled out as the worst steroid user to him. "The other thing I find personally reprehensible is the six million dollars he is entitled to once he matches Willie Mays homerun count. I think that whole situation is just gasoline in the fire."
