The Best Of Norris & Davis Show - Week Of September 18th, 2015
This week on the Norris And Davis Best Of we have former Ole Miss Head Coach Houston Nutt on the Terps QB situation, Boston Globe writer Dan Shaughnessy on Orioles vs Red Sox, and former NBA player Harvey Grant to talk about the NBA careers of himself and his twin brother Horace.
HOUSTON NUTT
Houston joined Ed and Steve to talk about what happened last week and what will happen this week in college football.
Steve asked Houston what we should make of Maryland losing at home to Bowling Green on Saturday. Houston explained that the loss was a bad one for Maryland mentioning that, "its a bad feeling when you wake up Sunday morning after giving up that many yards. That's the thing about football it can humble you."
Ed asked Houston about whether he thinks Michigan State can compete for a national championship this season. Houston believes that the Spartans have a good shot at accomplishing that this year noting, "coach Mark Dantonio has done a tremendous job. His teams have always been known for their physical defense and Connor Cook has played well. Their win over Oregon on Saturday was a huge one."
Houston went on to discuss the quarterback change for the Maryland Terrapins, his thoughts on former Oklahoma State and current Maryland backup quarterback Daxx Garman, and his experience coaching former Ravens first round pick Michael Oher.
DAN SHAUGHNESSY
Dan joined Ed and Steve to talk about all things Boston sports including Red Sox vs Orioles.
Steve asked Dan about the connection between David Ortiz and steroids and the potential impact on his Hall of Fame Chances. Dan believes that the numbers alone may not be enough to get Ortiz in saying, "its difficult to say what we will know down the road when he is eligible, but if we were voting today I don't think he would get in. Guys just haven't been forgiven in this area. Passing a test is not the barometer that tells you someone isn't doing something."
Ed asked Dan about his thoughts on how the AFC East division will shape up this season. Dan acknowledged that the division should be more competitive this year, but New England is still the class of the division, "the Patriots aren't as good as they were last year and the other three teams are better. I really hope someone can give them a run, but I don't see it happening. Outside of Tom Brady there are no quarterbacks in the division."
Dan went on to discuss his expectations for a wide open AFC, his opinion on Deflategate, as well as his thoughts on former Boston Red Sox and current Chicago Cubs General Manager Theo Epstein.
HARVEY GRANT
Harvey joined Ed and Steve to talk about his NBA career, the NBA career of his twin brother Horace Grant, and reflect on the life of Moses Malone.
Steve asked Harvey whether he was ever jealous of his brother Horace Grant getting to play with Michael Jordan. Harvey admitted he was but also added that he had the opportunity to play with great players as well, "of course I was, but I did get to play with a Hall of Famer in Bernard King and I learned so much from him from playing against him in practice. What some people forget is Horace didn't just play with Jordan and Pippen, he played with Shaq and Penny in Orlando and he played with Kobe and Shaq in Los Angeles when they won their first title."
Ed asked Harvey about his thoughts on the New York Knicks and whether they will be competitive this season. Harvey like some of the additions the Knicks have made this off season and expects them to be much more competitive this season, "I think they are putting some pieces together, they've brought in Robin Lopez, Aaron Afflalo and Derrick Williams. They are putting pieces around Carmelo Anthony to make a push for the playoffs. I hope they will surprise some people this season."
Harvey went on to discuss what he's been up to since retiring from the NBA, the late Moses Malone, and his thoughts on who he thinks is the better player, Michael Jordan or LeBron James.
