Terps Take On West Virginia At 8:40 Sunday Night
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Secrets will be scarce when fifth-seeded West Virginia takes on fourth-seeded Maryland on Sunday night in the Midwest Regional with a Sweet 16 berth riding on the outcome.
The Mountaineers (24-9) played just like they have all season in smothering Buffalo 68-62 on Friday in their opening game. Coach Bob Huggins' squad was relentless on defense, trapping and chasing all 94 feet. Devin Williams had 17 points, Juwan Staten 15 to go with seven assists and Daxter Miles Jr. added 10 points.
Maryland (28-6), meanwhile, relied as usual on its versatility and depth in holding off Valparaiso 65-62. Freshman Melo Trimble played like a veteran, with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Dez Wells and sub Jared Nickens also had 14 points.
