1 Charged, Another Suspect Wanted For 16-Year-Old Shot After Early Morning Home Invasion In Carroll County

TANEYTOWN, Md. (WJZ) -- A 16-year-old was shot during an early morning home invasion in Carroll County.

Maryland State Police said the home invasion and shooting happened in the unit block of East Baltimore Street in Taneytown around 2 a.m.

The victim was taken to Shock Trauma where he's in stable condition.

"The shot woke me up," a neighbor told WJZ. "It's just nervewracking to know that someone actually got shot."

Police have charged Charles O. Caradine, 31, of Taneytown, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, home invasion, first-degree burglary, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, armed robbery and four counts of first and second-degree assault.

Another suspect is still being sought in the case, described as an African American man with a "stocky build"

According to police, Taneytown officers responded to a call for a shooting at an apartment building shortly before 2 a.m. When they arrived they found the teen, who lived there, wounded.

Taneytown Police Chief Jason Etzler requested Maryland State Police conduct the investigation.

Police believe the armed suspects forced their way into the apartment and confronted the teen's father and a young child.

They demanded to see the teen and one suspect pistol-whipped the father in the head.

During an altercation, the victim was shot.

The child and another fourth person inside the home were not injured.

Investigating troopers identified one of the suspects and went to his home near the shooting scene. The suspect surrendered without incident.

The investigation continues.
