Teen Says She Was Assaulted In Black Friday Melee At Victoria's Secret In Annapolis Mall
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)—A brutal beating caught on camera happened inside Westfield Annapolis Mall on Black Friday. Now police are stepping in after a victim came forward.
Mike Hellgren has more on what happened and the startling video.
A teenager says two women she never met before simply started beating her at a store, and police are trying to piece together what happened.
The fight broke out on Black Friday just after midnight at Victoria's Secret in Westfield Annapolis Mall.
The video shows people trying to break it up as women throw punches and kicks.
Regular customers at the mall say it is outrageous.
"This is ridiculous. I mean, they were totally out of control," one woman said.
"Nothing you buy is worth that much," another woman said.
"Thirty-five seconds is too long to be beaten in the face," a woman said. "Wow. I heard about it all across the country, that there were fights. I didn't know it was right in our own backyard."
The 17-year-old victim contacted police, saying she had never seen her attackers before the incident. She says one of them pushed her down, jumped on her and punched her in the head before second woman joined in.
Police released still images of the women they'd like to question.
"The customers might, in fact, have a legitimate reason. They could've been assaulted themselves. We don't know that, so we're trying to get to the bottom of the story," said T. J. Smith, Anne Arundel County Police.
This is the second big fight caught on tape at the Annapolis mall in the last six months.
In June, two teenaged girls fought each other in front of Things Remembered and were later banned from the mall.
"I can't image any discount being worth your personal safety," one woman said.
Police say those involved in the Black Friday fight could face charges, including assault and disorderly conduct.
"It's a lot of people. You're going to get bumped into. You're going to get stepped on. It's going to happen, but we need patience. This is unacceptable. Unacceptable," Smith said.
Police say they are looking for more videos and eyewitness accounts. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call 410-222-1965.
