Teen Pleads Guilty In Death Of Elderly Woman
DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) -- A Forestville teenager has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of his 92-year-old neighbor last summer.
Authorities say William Fitts, 16, also pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree burglary and theft.
Prosecutors said Fitts stabbed Thelma Steele with a pocket knife in her District Heights home in August after the two argued about family issues. Her body was discovered days later. Fitts told detectives that he returned sometime later to take Steel's purse, cash and credit card.
Family members on both sides say Fitts and Steele had been close.
Fitts is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 7.
