Teen Gets 30 Years In Fatal 2012 Metro Stabbing
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Maryland teenager has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of another youth at a Washington Metro station.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington says Chavez Myers, 18, of District Heights pleaded guilty in September and was sentenced Friday in D.C. Superior Court.
Prosecutors say Myers and other youths attacked and robbed Olijawon Griffin, 18, of an iPhone and a jacket on Nov. 17, 2012. Authorities say Griffin was stabbed at the Woodley Park Metro station after he confronted the teens he believed had robbed him, including one who was wearing his jacket.
Prosecutors say five other co-defendants were also sentenced Friday to prison terms ranging from 15 to 19 years.
A telephone message left Friday evening for Myers' attorney was not immediately returned.
