Teen Charged With Setting Fire In Aberdeen High School Bathroom
ABERDEEN, Md. (AP) -- A 16-year-old student has been charged with setting a fire in the bathroom of a high school that forced the evacuation of 1,400 students.
The State Fire Marshal's Office says the fire at Aberdeen High School was reported about 1 p.m. Tuesday in a first-floor boy's bathroom. The building was evacuated and 25 firefighters battled the blaze, bringing it under control in five minutes. There were no injuries.
Officials say the sprinklers contained the fire to the bathroom, but water damaged nearby classrooms and computer labs. Damage was estimated at $10,000.
Police say a 16-year-old boy ignited a paper towel dispenser. He was charged with arson and other offenses and released to the custody of his father.
