Target Sends Bus With $25,000 & Disney Channel Star To Baltimore City School
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It seems like every national big box store has a sign near the entrance telling us they donate to local charities, causes and projects.
Now, as Mike Schuh reports, one company packed their money on a bus and sent it to a Baltimore City school.
On Thursday, Target surprised Sarah M. Roach Elementary School students and faculty with a big gift.
"We are elated," said principal Renata Plummer. "Today is a good day, great day. I knew about the first part, but to get an additional $20,000 in supplies for my teachers and students...wow."
If that wasn't enough, Disney Channel actress Bridgit Mendler was also on board. The celebrity, who plays Teddy Duncan on "Good Luck Charlie," had excited students in tears.
"It's more than a job for me. It's something I really believe in," said Mendler.
In the past month, Target gave away $2.5 million to 100 schools. Each school received $25,000. Sarah M. Roach Elementary was the last one on the list.
"Education is a top priority for Target. Our guests tell us it's one of their top social priorities and we want to make sure we listen to our guests and help schools in communities across the entire country," said Target communications manager Jill Hornbacher.
Sarah M. Roach Elementary was only one of four schools in the nation to get a visit from the Bullseye Bus, Disney Channel star and get thousands of dollars in iPads, display screens and materials.
Two other schools in Maryland also received $25,000. One was in Gaithersburg and the other in Landover Hills.
