Tanker Carrying Fuel Ignites, Spewing Runoff In Back Creek
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)— A tanker truck delivering fuel to a marina in Annapolis caught fire Tuesday afternoon, creating a potential Hazmat situation.
The fire involved a 5,000 gallon waste gasoline tanker, which was picking up waste gasoline. More than half of the gas is still in the tanker.
The Annapolis Fire Department extinguished the blaze but not before several vans nearby were destroyed and residue spilled into Back Creek.
Foam residue can be seen from Sky Eye Chopper 13.
The Maryland Department of the Environment is at the scene in the 7300-block of Edgewood Road mitigating any further runoff. They are also trying to determine how much of the foam leaked into the water.
No injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
