Suspect Injured After Burglary Ends In Police-Involved Shooting
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A man remains in the hospital after being shot by Baltimore police during a burglary.
Rochelle Ritchie has more on what led to the shooting.
Baltimore police say the man is in stable but critical condition.
It was just before 5 a.m. when shots rang out on E. Monument Avenue. Baltimore police say they were called to Patel's Corner grocery store for a burglary. Inside, police found a masked man with a bag.
"Seconds later, officers encountered the suspect exiting the side door of the business. At which time, they observed he had a shiny metal object in his hand," said Deputy Commissioner Dean Palmere, Baltimore Police Department.
Police say the man was given verbal commands, but did not say what those commands were. The suspect did not comply, and that's when at least one officer fired his gun.
Baltimore police say the man was shot at least one time in his upper torso and was rushed to the hospital for surgery.
"We don't have too much information on the suspect at this time other than he is approximately a 45-year-old white male," Palmere said.
Police have not said if the shiny object in the suspect's hand was a weapon or what was in the bag he was carrying.
Police say none of the officers at the scene were injured.
The identity of the suspect has not been revealed.
