ODENTON, Md. (WJZ) -- A 23-year-old Odenton woman called 911 Friday to report she was struck by stray gunfire while sitting inside her apartment, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 12:45 p.m. in the 700 block of Hammond Branch Road, less than a half-mile away from Piney Orchard Elementary School, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim, who was taken to an area hospital with an injury to an extremity that was not considered life-threatening.

Police said they took a suspect into custody, but noted that charges have not yet been filed.
