Suspect In 2002 Assault, Burglary Arrested
ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County Police say a DNA match has led to the arrest of a suspect in a 2002 assault and burglary in Silver Spring.
On Jan. 28, 2002, a worker was found unconscious from blunt force trauma to her head in an office. She was treated and released at a local hospital, and police said property was missing from the office.
Evidence was submitted for forensic examination. In May 2010, police were told that there was a DNA match. Because of the amount of time that had passed, police sought more evidence linking the suspect to the crimes.
On Sept. 30, police arrested Carroll Richard Leach, 70, of Washington and charged him with assault and burglary. He is being held on $17,500 bond.
