HALETHORPE, Md. (WJZ) -- Baltimore County Police have charged Robert McCann in connection with the August 2011 fire in Halethorpe that left his mother 90-year-old Edna Marie McCann dead.
On the morning of August 25, 2011 Baltimore County Fire and Police responded to a house fire in the 2200 block of Alletta Avenue. Once on the scene, they found fire and smoke coming from the home.
There police met with then 58-year-old Robert McCann, a resident of the home who had been sitting in a vehicle in the driveway. McCann, who had minor burns and soot on his hands, clothing, and face, told them that his mother was still inside the home.
When firefighters searched the home, they found Edna Marie McCann in a bedroom. She was declared dead at the scene.
The investigation of the fire by the Baltimore County Police Department indicated that Robert McCann had intentionally started the fire. A warrant was obtained for his arrest on May 14 of this year.
Robert McCann moved to Delaware after the fire. The Delaware State Police took him into custody Thursday morning. He is currently in Delaware awaiting extradition back to Maryland.
