Suspect Charged, In Custody In Case Of Missing UVa. Student
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WJZ) -- Hiding in plain sight. With a felony warrant out for his arrest, Jesse Matthew Jr. was spotted on a beach in Texas. Matthew was the last person seen with a University of Virginia sophomore that's been missing since Sept. 13---and now he's behind bars.
Christie Ileto has more on the intensifying search for 18-year-old Hannah Graham.
On the run for four days, Matthew was arrested in Galveston, Texas. He's been wanted in connection with the disappearance of Graham.
"This case is nowhere near over. We have a person in custody but we have a long road ahead of us and that long road includes finding Hannah Graham," said Charlottesville Police Chief Tim Longo.
Surveillance video shows Matthew was with Graham in the final hours before she disappeared Sept. 13. He's charged with a count of felony abduction with intent to defile. It's not clear why he fled to Texas---but the bigger question is, where's Hannah?
"Please, please call the police with anything that just might help bring Hannah back home," said her father, John Graham.
Pleas from her family grow more desperate as the investigation grows more dire.
"We're asking every person within the sound of my voice to help us find Hannah Graham," Longo said.
For the past two years, Matthew was a patient technician at the University of Virginia Medical Center. The university says he has been suspended without pay.
