Suspect Arrested Year-And-A-Half After Balt. Co. Break In, Rape
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A man has been arrested and charged with a March 2015 home invasion and rape after DNA helped police identify him as a suspect.
Just before 3 a.m. on March 26, 2015, Baltimore County police officers responded to an apartment in the 4000 block of Colchester Road.
According to investigators, a 26-year-old woman who lived there opened the front door as she was leaving for work around 2 a.m. and saw the suspect standing there. She screamed, shut the door, and secured it with the dead bolt, but the man began to strike the door, forced it open, and entered the apartment. He led the victim to her bedroom where he raped her, police say.
"He banged on that door so hard that he forced it in and he was able to enter the apartment," said Baltimore County Police spokesperson John Wachter. "He later took the woman into her bedroom where he raped her."
The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. DNA collected during the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination was a match with 36-year-old Alphonso Dewayne Owens of the 3400 block of SW Caton Avenue, investigators say.
Owens has been charged with first-degree rape, home invasion, and related charges, and is being held without bail.
This incident remains under investigation by the Baltimore County Police Special Victims Unit. Detectives are working to determine if Owens is responsible for any other similar incidents.
