Suspect #2 In Marathon Bombings 'Last Person' Former Schoolmates, Teachers Would Suspect
BOSTON (WJZ) -- We are learning more about the two brothers accused in the Boston Marathon bombing.
Monique Griego has more on their background.
Everyone who knew the suspects says they seemed like normal guys. They can't understand what went wrong.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his younger brother, Dzhokhar, had family roots in Chechnya, but came to the U.S. from Russia as children.
An uncle says Dzhokhar was born in the neighboring republic of Dagestan, where he attended primary school. He says the Tsarnaev family moved to the Cambridge area 11 years ago.
"They emigrated and received asylum," he said.
CBS News has learned Dzhokhar came to the United States on a tourist visa in April 2002. He received permanent resident status in February 2007, and became a naturalized citizen on Sept. 11 of last year.
Dzhokhar attended the prestigious Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. A former schoolmate who didn't want to be identified and teachers say he's the last person they would suspect.
"It's crazy. How you can know somebody and not know what they're planning," she said.
"There's nothing about him that would suggest anything like this--politics, religion, nothing," said Larry Aaronson, teacher.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev was a Golden Gloves boxer who once posted on his social media page:
"I don't have a single American friend. I don't understand them."
"He was, he always talked about his faith. He was big into religion," said one person.
An aunt living in Toronto said she questions the FBI's story.
"No, I am suspicious that this was staged," said Maret Tsarnaev.
The suspect's father, who's currently in Russia, believes his sons were set up.
On a social media site, Dzhokhar listed his religion as Islam and also posted links to Islamic sites.
