Suspect Caught On Camera Stealing Tricycle In Hampden
BALTIMORE (WJZ) - Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect caught on camera stealing a tricycle in Baltimore City.
The tricycle belongs Lou Catelli, known as the mayor of Hampden.
The bike has been used in parades and festivals. Even when there's not a parade, he'll run errands on his trike.
"I transport refrigerators, ovens," Catelii says.
Friends even call him for rides. He calls it "Louber."
Police say the incident occurred in the 1100 block of West 36th street in Hampden around 5:30 in the morning on Sunday, May 28th. The suspect is seen cutting a lock securing the bike to a chained fixture. After cutting the lock, the suspect leaves for a few seconds before returning and taking off on tricycle.
"On Monday I went looking for it," he says. "I thought I locked it here, but I can't find it, I go walk up and down the Avenue, it's Memorial Day, but I can't find it."
Police say the suspect may be responsible for other thefts in area.
"He didn't cut it, he jimmied it, he knew what he was doing."
One person claimed to have seen a guy riding it at Mondawmin.
His trike is part of Baltimore history as it was purchased at auction from Bethlehem Steel when they shut down for good.
