Steve Davis: Will Bounty-Gate Lead To Lawsuits?
I think there's a good chance that the suspension of Payton, Williams, Loomis and Vitt isn't the end, but just the beginning.
Now that there's been a story written in Washington that Gregg Williams walked into the meeting room back in 2006 before the Redskins were playing and the Vikings, put down 15 grand in cash and said "Brad Johnson doesn't finish this game!", I think there has to be an investigation. The league (and maybe even the IRS) should want to know if money was changing hands on a regular basis.
This isn't a couple hundred bucks. This would be compensation that should have been taxed. Of course, that's just one element. It also may have been against the rules. If I got hurt playing against any of Gregg Williams' defenses over the last 10 plus years, I'd be getting a lawyer and deposing members of the opposing defenses. This could get ugly, and very litigious. Oh yeah, by the way, Williams can't coach again in the NFL if this stuff is true!
