Steve Davis: What About The Defense?
I know a lot of the frustration centers on Flacco and the offense, and that is fair. But I do want to point a couple of fingers at the defense.
They continue to be unable to get off the field in crucial situations. For three quarters, they were great. On third down in the first three quarters, they held the Bears to 1 for 8.
However, when it really counted, the Bears converted 4 of 5 third downs.
They had a third and 6 in the fourth and the defense couldn't hold. Chicago would end up getting a TD on that possession that gave them the lead.
Then in overtime, the Ravens had them in a third and 9 and they gave up a first down.
While the culprit may have been the offense for not being able to pile on the points after going up 17-10 in the first half, I still think the defense, which is not been riddled with injuries, needs to make more big plays and create more turnovers if this team is going to turn the corner.
