Steve Davis: Was Seahawks' D' Better Than Ravens In Super Bowl?
One of the interesting debates about the Seahawks performance is whether or not it was the best ever by a defense in the Super Bowl. Of course, this gets extra attention in Baltimore because of the Ravens defense in Super Bowl 35.
This might ruffle some feathers, but I would say the Seahawks' performance was even better than the Ravens. That's not because the Ravens did anything wrong. The defense did everything right. Yes, I know, the Ravens defense didn't give up a single point and Seattle gave up 8. Yes, I also know that the Ravens gave up far fewer yards, first downs, etc.
That said, the Ravens did it against the Giants, a team that averaged 21 points in the regular season. The Seahawks did it against the most prolific offense EVER! Denver averaged 38 a game, and the Seahawks held them to 8. The rules are much more in favor of the offense now, which means it was harder for a defense to dominate nowadays than back then. We faced Kerry Collins. They faced Peyton.
