Steve Davis: Ravens Still Looking For Signature Win
I am not going to sit here and say the Ravens blew the game against Cincinnati. It is a game they could have won. I don't think they should have won it.
I don't put too much into the pass interference call on Smith. That is not what cost them the game. Now, I don't think it was a great call. I don't think Smith threw down the defensive back, nor do I think they guy flopped. I think the defender was out of position, was off balance, and Smith was preparing for things to get physical and so he pushed the guy... a little. That was hardly a forceful blow.
However, it wouldn't have been an issue if the Ravens defense didn't give up a 53 yard play on 3rd and 10. That was awful. They also gave up 11 yards on a 3rd and 2 at the 18 that put Cincy on the 7.
Flacco had 2 more interceptions, and could have had 2 more. That is 4 picks, and 4 near picks in the last two games. That is being careless with the football.
I didn't have a problem with Harbaugh going for the score on 4th and 1 on the first drive. I didn't even have a problem with the play call. Just execute the play.
The wide receivers just vanished. Nothing against Michael Campanaro, but when you're rookie 7th round pick is your leading receiver with 3 catches for 40 yards, where was everyone else. Torrey Smith, Jacoby Jones and Marlon Brown combined for one catch for 2 yards. Those were supposed to be your 2, 3 and 4 receivers. That is brutal.
The Ravens have had some lopsided wins, but only one against a team with a winning record, Pittsburgh, and that was a short week and a road game for Pittsburgh, so that is devalued. The Ravens don't have very many "tough" opponents left. Pittsburgh looks to be one; it will be interesting to see how the Ravens respond.
