Steve Davis: Personnel Part Of The Problem

I know people want to pin the Ravens woes on HOW they are playing. What about WHO is playing?

This team had major turnover, and maybe part of the problem is they didn't do a good job replacing the guys who left.

Let me preface this by saying that the Ravens front office is tremendous, one of the best in sports. But they don't hit a home run all the time.

Part of the reason they let Boldin go is because they thought they had guys that would step up. They haven't. Reed, Doss, Thompson either aren't here or haven't done much.

They counted on McKinnie, and they were wrong, and now they are out a fourth and fifth rounder for next year.

Gradkowski as counted on to start. Maybe he will be good, but right now there is a drop-off. The jury's still out on him.

Michael Huff was a disappointment.

Two years ago they signed veterans to bolster special teams and it helped. This year, they didn't, or couldn't because of the cap and it has showed.

They made additions to bolster the front seven, but they looked brutal vs the Steelers and Bills. And don't forget about the ill-advised attempt to bring in Rolando McClain.

I am not saying the Ravens are toast or anything, but they might be short on talent, and that could be the problem.
