Steve Davis: Orioles Poised For Run
I can't believe how many people are telling me how difficult the Orioles stretch is, and how tough it is going to be to make the playoffs. I don't mean sound cliche and say "to be the best, you have to beat the best." But really, isn't this what it is all about?
The Orioles are in a stretch of playing Tampa and Oakland, which they just finished, and now Boston, NY and Cleveland. Of those teams, 4 are ahead of the O's for a playoff spot, and the Yankees are hot on their heels.
This is exactly what you want if you're the Orioles. Sure, they're tough teams, but it is the way to gain ground the quickest, by beating the teams in front of you. This is not an ego thing, it's just reality. If the Orioles want to make the playoffs, they have to win the majority of these games.
If they take 6 of the next 9, a lofty goal on the road, they are in a decent position to make the playoffs.
