Steve Davis: No Time To Panic On Ravens
I am not particularly concerned about the Ravens after the loss in Indy.
Actually, to some degree I am encouraged.
The defense, I thought, played pretty well. That is a potent offense that Indy has, and the defense held them to 6 points in the first half. It wasn't until they wore out in the second half that they finally started to get exploited. C.J. Mosley really has stepped up, and the secondary was decent, all things being considered.
The offense wasn't very good, but that is a tough place to play. The Ravens were playing undrafted rookie left tackle James Hurst, and that was evident. They will get Monroe back and should be better up front.
I'm not saying I didn't have some concerns. I don't understand why Harbaugh didn't kick the field goal when they were down 3-0, and I said that, as soon as they failed on 3rd and 1, that they should take the points. This is twice this year that he has gone for it when, in my opinion, he should have taken the points. They couldn't get a yard on 3rd and 1, so what makes them think they will get a yard on 4th and 1?
Earlier, on 3rd and 1, they put in a personnel package of Kyle Juszczyk, Jacoby Jones, Owen Daniels, Lorenzo Taliaferro and Crockett Gilmore. That is a run package. So what do they do? Throw. Ah, I get it, the art of deception. Then, Joe gets sacked. OK, if it works, Kubiak is a genius, but to my thinking, if you want to throw, put your receivers that can catch on the field.
They were 1-11 on third downs, down from 10-13 last week.
They turned the ball over 3 times and lost the time of possession by 14 minutes, and still only by 7 points.
No time to panic.
