Steve Davis: Maryland's Defense Could Propel Them Further
If you told me Maryland would shoot 1-18 from three point land and get out-rebounded on the offensive glass 16-3, I would have asked you how much they lost by. Both of those things happened, and they still beat Hawaii by 13. Now, part of the reason is because they are just more talented. However, another part is because they played stellar defense.
Maryland's defense has been exceptional the last few weeks. If they play that way against Kansas, they can win, although certainly they will have to be better offensively. It's hard to imagine they will be that bad again shooting from outside anyway. Now, there's some other things they need to improve upon. Maryland is too big and has too much talent to continue to get out-hustled on the boards and with loose balls. Hawaii had a guy rebound the ball from his back! They had 2 players make passes setting up scores when they were on the ground. That can't happen if the Terps want to advance. The pressure is off now, as Kansas is the team that should win. Maybe that will help Maryland, playing with house money so to speak. This has been somewhat of a confounding team, since they really haven't played a great game since January.
That said, with all this talent, they still might have a great game or two in them.
