Steve Davis: Don't Blame The Orioles
I said it before and I will say it again. Don't blame the Orioles for the Ravens not playing on September 5th.
You can blame the Orioles for a lot over the last 15 years, but don't do it this time. It's not their fault. They are hoping they are in a pennant race this September.
Playing early on Thursday wasn't an option because it is unlikely the White Sox players would have gone for it, as they have a road night game the day before and might not arrive in Baltimore until 3am. Playing at noon means getting to the ballpark at 8:30am.
A doubleheader isn't a good option either. Number one, the White Sox players might have agreed. But, even if they did, the teams might have said we don't want to do that to our rotation and bullpen in September and jeopardize losing a game.
Some people treat it like a rainout; however, if they already had some rainouts, the Orioles might already be stuck playing some September doubleheaders or on off days.
Like I said, I doubt Buck would want to give up any competitive advantage in September hoping to be in a playoff race.
