Star Spangled Banner Project To Create Flag That Inspired Anthem
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Sewers in Maryland are set to begin recreating the flag that inspired the national anthem.
The Star Spangled Banner Project will officially begin July 4 and is being spearheaded by the Maryland Historical Society.
The project is expected to take more than 100 volunteers six weeks to complete.
Baltimore's mayor, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, will make the first stitch on the flag during a ceremony at the Fort McHenry National Monument and Shrine.
The finished flag will be flown for the first time on Sept. 12.
