St. Frances Academy To Honor Cosbys For Donations
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore school is naming its community center for Bill and Camille Cosby, the school's biggest donors.
The 184-year-old St. Frances Academy will honor the couple at a naming ceremony on Friday. The Cosbys will be introduced by former Virginia Gov. Douglas Wilder, the nation's first elected black governor, and CNN's Soledad O'Brien will deliver the keynote at the event.
The couple gave the school, which serves primarily low-income high school students, $2 million in 2005 to support its scholarship program. It was the largest gift the school had ever received.
Mother Mary Lange, the founder of the Oblate Sisters of Providence, helped establish St. Frances in 1828. Camille Cosby
attended Washington's now-closed St. Cyprian Elementary-Middle School, which was also founded by the Oblate Sisters.
