As a mom to school-age children, finding activities to fill up an entire week of school-free days can be a daunting task. In current economic times when planning a spring vacation to Disney or even a visit to a closer amusement park may not be a realistic option for a family of five, it's smart to think ahead, do a little research and plan a spring break that is affordable, educational and tons of fun!
Baltimore is home to tons of kid friendly attractions and events and spring is the perfect time to partake in a few of them!

Hit the library. From baby and toddler story times to special events and reading clubs for older children, the library system offers families a number of entertaining and educational activities to pass the time with. Check out your local branch for special events running through spring break and beyond.

Want to see all of the glory of Baltimore City at once?! Climb to the top of the World Trade Center, the highest pentagonal building in Baltimore, to enjoy a panoramic view of the city. Use the on-site binoculars and photo map guides to make up your own scavenger hunt for the kid while you're there!

Looking for a fun place where children can learn about Baltimore's history? The BMI is a great venue for children of all ages to gain insight into how Baltimore works. From the Industrial Revolution right up to the 21st century, the BMI's exhibits explore the importance of Baltimore's ports and railway stations while also introducing visitors to the variety of innovative ideas and products born right here in Maryland. The museum also offers family programs and a Vacation Days at the BMI series that invites youngsters to enjoy their out of school days learning at the museum. This wonderful museum filled to bursting with impressive art in a variety of mediums is free to the public! Enjoy art from around the world, local artists series, films and performances inside the walls of the Baltimore Museum of Art. Best part? They offer family programs and a weekly free family series designed for families to learn about and enjoy art together!

The perfect place to jump off the spring season, surrounded by fresh blooms, is the Botanic Gardens of Druid Hill Park. Children can explore the grounds, smell the flowers in bloom, learn about gardening and native plants in the area, and enjoy special programs hosted by the city all while nestled in a beautiful sanctuary in the city.
