NFL free agency has not disappointed. Peyton Manning is now a member of the Broncos. Terms of the deal have not been finalized, but once it is done, the Broncos will try and trade Tim Tebow. Matt Flynn didn't wait as he signed a 3-year deal with the Seahawks, passing on his old offensive coordinator, Joe Philbin who is now the head coach in Miami, so now Alex Smith may be the Dolphins choice to solve their QB dilemma. Smith and the Fins met for five hours Sunday.
The Sweet 16 is set for the men's basketball championship. North Carolina was favored by many to win it all and those hopes took a serious hit as it was revealed that sophomore point guard Kendall Marshall has a broken bone in his right wrist, which is his non-shooting hand. There is an option for surgery and to play with a cast. His status for UNC's regional semi-final on Friday is uncertain. The top-seeded Tarheels face the number 13 Ohio Bobcats.
The New York Mets owners and Bernie Madoff settled Monday morning for $162 million. Mets owners will not have to pay anything for three years. Team owners will have to pay other investors that trusted their money to Madoff, who was involved in a Ponzi scheme that cheated investors out of nearly $20 billion over two decades.
The Orioles get a rare off day Monday from exhibition play. Tuesday they host the Phillies at Ed Smith Stadium where Brian Matusz will be on the mound trying to keep his hot pitching going. Matusz has tossed eight shutout innings in his last two outings, giving up just 5 hits and walking none.
