Son Of Autism Doctor Scrutinized By Md. Officials
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) -- The son of a doctor who's been scrutinized for therapy given to autistic children is accused of practicing medicine alongside his father without a license.
The Maryland Board of Physicians has set a July hearing and could fine David Geier. He practices in the Rockville and Owings Mills medical offices of his father, Dr. Mark Geier.
The elder Geier, who is nationally known for treating autism with a drug that decreases hormone production, had his license suspended this month by state medical officials. The Board of Physicians said Mark Geier put children at risk, misrepresented his credentials and misdiagnosed children.
Lawyers for the Geiers say the charges are false and that David Geier works in an "administrative" capacity. They say their clients are being unfairly targeted because of their therapy.
