Snow, Sleet Cause Crashes Across Western Md.
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police are reporting scores of accidents on snow-covered highways across central and western Maryland.
Snow emergency plans were activated Wednesday morning from Carroll to Garrett counties as snow and sleet pelted the region.
Cpl. Robert Royer in Hagerstown reports at least one personal-injury accident on Interstate 70 about two miles west of Route 63. He says several other accidents have occurred on the same stretch of I-70 west of Hagerstown.
State police in Allegany County report a flurry of accidents on I-68, and on state and county roads.
The National Weather Service predicts 1 to 5 inches of snow in most counties west of the Baltimore-Washington area, followed by freezing rain in the afternoon. The Maryland mountains could get 6 to 10 inches of snow.
