Snow Cleanup Continues On Eastern Shore
OCEAN CITY, Md. (WJZ) -- The snow has stopped falling, but the cleanup from a massive storm is far from over.
Mike Hellgren reports people in Ocean City are still digging out.
The big enemy on the Eastern Shore has been the wind. The snow drifted over roads. Conditions have remained cold and ice is still there, creating quite a mess.
Snow-packed, secondary roads made driving treacherous on some parts of the Eastern Shore, days after a slow-moving storm pounded Maryland's coastlines.
"I've lived in a lot of places and this is the worst snow removal job I've seen in my entire life," said cab driver Bob Happy.
"The roads coming through Delaware are pretty horrible if you ask me," said Bob Horner.
The winter blast hit Ocean City hard. Banks of snow lined the freshly plowed boardwalk and bundled-up children played in the sand dunes, a wintry side of the city few get to see.
"We're coming for the first time here and I think we're in the right place at the wrong time," said tourist Iliana Abrahim.
"I've never seen something that bad in just one storm," said Morgan Huntzinger.
Officials have looked at snow emergencies in several Eastern Shore counties and signs still warn of icy conditions. Drifting snow has made it very difficult to keep secondary roads clean; many are still packed with snow and ice.
"The road I'm living on is a single lane road right now," said John Warren.
Many say this winter's storm is one of the most intense they can remember.
The main roads are good but again, smaller roads are covered in snow. Take your time if you need to travel on the Eastern Shore.
