Smith Scores 23, Leads Navy Past Army 79-57
WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) -- Worth Smith had 23 points Saturday as Navy ended its six-game losing streak and dominated Army 79-57 in the annual Star Game.
After trailing 31-30 with 2:36 left in the first half, the Midshipmen outscored Army 42-15 to take a 72-46 lead on Earl McLaurin's third 3-pointer of the game. McLaurin entered the game with only three on the season.
Navy had six different players make 3-pointers and was 11 of 20 from 3-point range. The Midshipmen (8-15, 3-9 Patriot League) also had assists on 23 of their 30 field goals.
Kendall Knorr and Brandon Venturini scored 17 and 12 points, respectively, and each had eight assists.
Tanner Plomb had 17 points and Dylan Cox added 10 for the Knights (12-11, 8-4) who failed to close within one game of the conference leaders after American University lost its second straight and dropped to a tie with Boston U at 10-2.
