Small Plane Crashes In Bowie; 4 Escape Uninjured
BOWIE, Md. (AP) -- A single-engine airplane crashed in a cornfield near an airport in Bowie and all four occupants escaped without injury.
The Maryland State Police says the crash happened Saturday before 10 a.m. at the Freeway Airport. Officials say the plane, a Cessna Skyhawk, was trying to land when the aircraft veered from the runway and wound up upside down in the cornfield.
The plane is owned by the airport, and officials say the group had rented the aircraft and were on a sightseeing flight.
Maryland State Police identified the pilot as 43-year-old Edwardo Grigsby of Brandywine, Md. His passengers were 38-year-old Tsige Safo of Alexandria, Va., and her son and daughter, 14-year-old Nahom Ebssa and 9-year-old Eban Ebssa.
By the time troopers arrived all four had exited the aircraft.
