Sheriff Chases Down Driver After Hit-And-Run Crash
RUTHSBURG, Md. (AP) -- The Queen Anne's County sheriff chased down a Caroline County man authorities say was driving a van that crashed into the sheriff's vehicle, then fled.
Sheriff R. Gery Hofmann was stopped on the side of the Ruthsburg Road in Ruthsburg on Monday morning, when a van hit his vehicle, then sped off at speeds reaching 77 miles per hour. Hofmann pulled over the van near Greenville Road.
The sheriff's office says the driver, Bradley Michael Zahner, 23, of Henderson, told Hofmann that he did not have a license. Authorities say Zahner is wanted in Delaware on burglary, theft and conspiracy charges. He was taken into custody and is awaiting extradition to Delaware.
Zahner was issued traffic citations. The sheriff was not injured.
