WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sharon Stone, Bill Gates and other celebrities are heading to Washington to join the International AIDS Conference and raise funds for AIDS research.
Stone is holding a fundraising event Friday evening at the Kiehl's store in Georgetown. The event marks the culmination of a 10-day philanthropic motorcycle ride along the East Coast to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS research and funding.
Motorcyclists are expected to ride up and down M Street. The event will raise funds for amfAR, a foundation for AIDS research.
It is free and open to the public. Stone is the group's global fundraising chairman.
On Saturday, Stone will present Gates an award during a benefit concert at the Kennedy Center. The concert will feature a performance by Jessye Norman and appearances by other celebrities.
