'Serial' Alibi Witness Tells Her Side Of The Story In New Book
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A key alibi witness in connection to a 1999 Baltimore murder is telling her side of the story in her book, "Confessions of a Serial Alibi."
In 2014, a podcast called 'Serial' reopened the murder case involving Adnan Syed through weekly installments, drawing in millions of listeners. Host Sarah Koenig used the podcast to re-investigate the case and raised questions about the killing of Syed's ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee.
Asia McClain Chapman, who is featured in the podcast, says she was with Syed at their local library the night Lee was killed.
Syed is now serving a life sentence for the crime he says he never committed.
Chapman wrote to Syed in jail and offered to be his alibi witness. Her testimony was never used by Syed original lawyer during his 2000 trial.
Now, Syed is hoping to get a new trial. He appeared in court in February, along with Chapman, during a post-conviction hearing.

On the stand, Chapman says she spoke with Syed about his breakup with Lee the day of the murder, saying he said, "There was no hard feelings, they were still friends."
"He was very sweet about it. His demeanor. His actions. I couldn't reconcile he killed her," said Chapman.
Syed is now waiting for the judge's decision.
"I have no idea when we will get a ruling in Syed. Could be weeks, could be months," said Syed's attorney Justin Brown.
Chapman took to Twitter on Tuesday saying she wanted to wait until the judge made a ruling to release the book, "but we have no idea wen that will be, I wanted my side heard, I was tired of holding it in."
Determined to set the record straight she says she wanted to put the rumors to bed.
"I know I don't have to explain. I want to explain. Put these rumors to bed. I'm not trying to hide anything," says Chapman. "As a witness I could only answer things that were asked to me. I just wanted people to understand how everything went down in reality. Part of me hopes the judge reads the book, there were things that didn't get clarified in court."
"Confessions of a Serial Alibi" is due in stores in June. Preorders are available now.
