Sentence Cut For Md. Man Who Killed 3 In Car Crash
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A drunk driver who fled the scene of a car crash in Olney that killed three of his friends has had his
sentence reduced.
A panel of three Montgomery County judges on Friday cut 12 years from Kevin Coffay's 20-year sentence. Prosecutors say that means that under state rules he is eligible for parole as early as May of next year.
Coffay pleaded guilty in November to three counts of vehicular manslaughter and one count of fleeing the scene of a fatal crash. Authorities said the 20-year-old was at the wheel at 3 a.m. on May 15 of last year when his car swerved off Olney-Laytonsville Road and crashed into a tree, killing three passengers.
