Senator To Propose Keeping 6th District Unchanged
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A state senator says he will introduce legislation in Maryland's upcoming special session on redistricting to preserve the 6th congressional district from changes made under a draft plan.
Sen. Joseph Getty, a Republican, said Monday his proposal would keep the western Maryland district largely as it is. The district has been held by Republican Rep. Roscoe Bartlett since 1993.
Getty says his proposal would change the proposed 3rd congressional district from the Baltimore metropolitan region to
become a minority-majority district including central parts of Montgomery and Prince George's counties.
The special session is scheduled to begin next week. A draft proposal to move a large portion of Montgomery County into the 6th district has angered Republicans who say Democrats are trying to make it harder for Bartlett to win re-election.
