Pugh And Rolley Hit The Campaign Trail Before September Mayoral Primary
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- With Baltimore's mayoral primary fast approaching, the candidates are hitting the campaign trail hard. Saturday, State Senator Catherine Pugh laid out her plans to revamp the police department.
"It's not about additional police," she said. "It's about overhauling the police department and making sure that our police are where they need to be. And there are too many police officers who are doing death duty. We want them on the streets."
Pugh says despite the data showing crime is dropping in the city, many people don't feel safe in their neighborhoods. She says the police department needs to build a stronger partnership with the communities they protect.
Another challenger to Stephanie Rawlings-Blake did his best to get his name out to the voters Saturday. Otis Rolley set a goal of knocking on 3,000 doors in just three hours Saturday afternoon.
Rolley and Pugh are among a crowded field of candidates taking on incumbent Stephanie Rawlings-Blake in next month's primary.
