Sen. Frosh To Announce Run For Attorney General
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- State Sen. Brian Frosh said Monday he will be announcing his run for Maryland attorney general.
Frosh, D-Montgomery, said he is officially announcing his bid in an email to supporters on Tuesday, and he has several campaign events scheduled for September.
The Montgomery County Democrat has been a state senator since 1995. He has been the chairman of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee since 2003. The senator took the leading role in advocating for a sweeping gun-control measure in the Senate in the last legislative session. Frosh served in the House of Delegates from 1987 to 1995.
Frosh said he has been a strong advocate for the environment and consumers during his time in the Legislature.
"I will bring those same qualities, those same commitments and abilities to the office of the attorney general," Frosh said.
Frosh has been exploring a run for months. The senator said he has spoken with people across the state, and he said he found that people often haven't felt like they've had someone in the office who is looking out for them.
"I want to be the people's lawyer, and I think that my career in the General Assembly both reflects that and has been a useful experience to qualify me to do the job," Frosh said.
Del. Jon Cardin, nephew of U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin, announced his candidacy last week. Del. Bill Frick, D-Montgomery, also is exploring a run.
Attorney General Doug Gansler, who is in his second term, is expected to announce candidacy for governor in September.
