Sen. Ben Cardin, Rep.Steny Hoyer Speaking To Western Md. Democrats
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Some of Maryland's top Democratic elected officials are joining party members from western Maryland at an annual meeting in Hagerstown.
U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin and Rep. Steny Hoyer are among the scheduled speakers at Saturday's event.
Democrats in the region are celebrating their party's victory in the state's 6th Congressional District in November.
Montgomery County banker John Delaney defeated 10-term incumbent Roscoe Bartlett, ending 20 years of Republican representation in western Maryland.
The change came after Maryland's Democratic leaders redrew the district's boundaries to make it more competitive. The redistricting added part of left-leaning Montgomery County to a district encompassing conservative western Maryland.
