Giving Back To Baltimore: Ed Reed Turkey Day Continues At SEED School Of Md.
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Hundreds of students will be sitting down to a Thanksgiving dinner courtesy of former Baltimore Raven Ed Reed.
Pat Warren reports Friday was turkey day at the SEED School of Maryland in Southwest Baltimore.
As a Raven, free safety Reed talked turkey at Thanksgiving.
"This is a time of giving. Thanksgiving is a time of love, and you can see all the love out. Everybody just helping out," he said last year.
Reed is no longer a Raven, but he's still on team Maryland.
For the third year, his foundation is supplying Thanksgiving dinner for families with students at the SEED School, and Ravens tight end Ed Dickson is standing in the gap.
"He's one of the best, one of the best. I'm four years in the league, and I couldn't have one better mentor. He and number 52, you know who that is, they set a great example for the kids in Baltimore and the guys that are coming after us," Dickson said.
Spokesman Brad Davis says Reed remains committed to the school, a statewide college prep public boarding school.
"You know they didn't have a football program here, so that's one of the first things we did," said Brad Davis, Eye of the Hurricane Foundation.
"We got to set a great example and definitely give back, especially when families need it," Dickson said.
The lesson is not lost on the students.
"No question, we tell them every day 'to whom much is given, much is required,'" said Dr. Khalek Kirkland, SEED School of Maryland.
"When I graduate I'm going to look back to see this school as something that helped build me to the man that I've become, so I'm real thankful for this opportunity," said Dexter Koffel.
"It's definitely a place I will be proud to graduate high school from," said John Everette Berry.
And for the SEED School, this is more than a meal; it's an investment in the future of the city.
SEED draws students from up to 16 different Maryland school systems.
