Scott Garceau: UA All-American Lacrosse Classic Returns To Towson
The nations best young lacrosse players will be in the Baltimore area this weekend for the 8th Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic. The nations top college coaches will have their recruiting eyes on the Underclass tournament that's part of the event. The holiday weekend is highlighted by the top 44 graduating senior boys and girls in North vs South all-star games. The girls game will be played at 5:00 Saturday with the boys game nationally televised (ESPN U) at 8:00, both will be played at Johnny Unitas Stadium on the Towson University campus.
The boys class of 2013 will be headed to 16 different universities. Maryland, Syracuse and Duke lead with 6 recruits on this year's All-America rosters. North Carolina is next with 5, Virginia has 4 and Hopkins, Penn State and Harvard have 3 in the game. It's nothing new, Under Armour All-Americans consistently transition from the best in high school lacrosse to the best in the college game.
There were 33 Under Armour All-Americans in this years Final Four. In the NCAA Championship Game Duke had 7 starters that were UAAA alumni and 4 of the 5 finalists for this years Tewaaraton Award (National Player of the Year) played in the Under Armour All-America Classic.
The North lead the boys series 4-3 but the South has won the last 2 including a 12-11 thriller last year. The girls game has recruits that include Southern Cal and Virginia Tech, the first time those schools have signed Under Armour All-American. The North girls leads the series 5-2.
