Schools In D.C., Md. Damaged By Earthquake
HYATTSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Officials in Prince George's County say 37 schools have sustained some sort of earthquake-related damage.
The officials said Tuesday the damage was still being investigated, but that in addition to the schools, four high-rise apartment buildings have been evacuated because of structural concerns. One building has been condemned. County schools will be closed on Wednesday as officials continue to assess the damage to the buildings.
The county courthouse in Upper Marlboro has a crack in the wall, while the regional processing center in Hyattsville has water damage.
All public schools in the District of Columbia were evacuated Tuesday afternoon. Some schools had minor damage and two students had minor injuries.
